How To Plan A Trip
Planning a trip can be very stressful and sometimes overwhelming. Have you ever gotten to the point where you are so worked up over trying to figure out where you want to go, what to pack, or how much money you need to bring along? Everyone, I’m sure, has gone through these experiences and I’m here to tell you that it will be okay. Traveling is supposed to be a fun and exciting experience! Over the next few years, I plan to travel to many different cities and countries to experience unique cultures and history. Vacations most times start off as this amazing idea and then eventually end up being a nightmare to manage. If people are wanting to take a vacation, whether that be in the United States, or to another country, it is very important to have a plan.
The first thing to do in order to start your plan is figure out your destination. Where do you want to travel to? What aspects interest you? What type of weather do you like? Does traveling to the beach catch your interest or does traveling to the mountains spark your interest more? Whatever it is, you need to know where you are headed. There are some things to keep in mind before selecting a destination. Weather and seasons play a huge factor. A person who does not like snow should not choose to travel to Montana, Alaska, or Canada for example. On the other hand, for a person that enjoys the hot sun rays and waves crashing against the shore, maybe they should consider traveling to Florida, Mexico, or Hawaii. You should also check out the best time to visit the place you are wanting to go to. In most cases, the perfect time to visit the mountains or the beach is totally different from one another. Consider the cost factor before deciding on where you want to take your trip to. What some people don’t realize is that traveling to a luxury destination during the shoulder season, which means a few weeks before or after the peak season, can lead to almost too good to be true discounts on hotels and flights. Safety is another concern to keep in mind before going to a specific destination, especially for solo female travelers.
The second thing to do in order to start your plan is decide the duration of your trip. How long do you want to be on your trip? Want to go for a weekend getaway or a long-term trip? No destination has a predefined ideal duration. Oftentimes, the dependent factor is the touring plans and purpose of the visit of the travelers. Some people like to discover new cities every day while on vacation, and others prefer to enjoy the little things of the places they visit. You need to accurately estimate the number of days required to visit a location, especially if you are wanting to get a lot of activities done. For a personal tip, a road trip planner set to your specific requests would lengthen the duration of a trip, whereas a trip depending on flights could be a little shorter. Deciding the duration of your trip is a key aspect of trip planning.
The third aspect of planning how to take a trip is knowing your way of transportation. Do you plan on booking a flight? Taking a train ride? Taking a bus ride? Doing a road trip? Regardless of which one you may choose, it is an important step. Since plane and train tickets are subject to change at any time, getting bookings done in advance will help avoid stress and additional charges in the future. You should only try to book the flights or train tickets that are the cheaper non-refundable ones. If not, it is best to book refundable tickets way in advance. In regard to booking a flight, ticket prices fluctuate all the time. From personal experience, I recently was trying to book a flight to Gulf Shores, Alabama, and noticed how quickly the ticket price had changed day to day. When I saw the price of $82 instead of $130 originally, I immediately booked the $82 ticket. This goes to show you how important it is to know what you are going to do for your way of transportation and how a flight or train ticket can fluctuate.
The final tip on how to plan your travel would be to pack diligently. For me personally, this is super hard! I always tend to overpack, packing things that I don’t end up needing, or not knowing what to pack. Once you are done deciding on how you are going to go on your trip, it is always advised to pack your clothing and personal items keeping in mind the destination and some external factors. Unpredictability of weather can be a pain sometimes. You honestly never know how Mother Nature is going to feel on the days of your vacay. It is best to lightly pack; however, packing an extra shirt, jacket, or pair of jeans can always come in handy during trips where the weather may be cold or rainy. Some items that you may want to include in your suitcase that might sound unnecessary but vital in preventing any skin-related diseases would be sunscreen, lotion, or mosquito repellent. For instance, if you plan to travel to the beach, having sunscreen is a must because for people who are from Illinois, for example, don’t realize how intense the sun is in tropical climates. It’s blazing hot! To conclude, I would advise to always pack your suitcase a couple days prior to going on vacation. It’s better to start planning early than late. Knowing what you are bringing with you on your trip in advance will relieve a lot of stress.
One last piece of advice when figuring out how to plan a trip would be to simply just have fun. If you are going on a vacation, have as much fun as you can. Take those millions of pictures, meet people from different cultures, go swim with the dolphins, watch the sunset go down beneath the sea or behind a mountain! Do whatever makes YOU happy. I can’t stress that enough. Plan your trip how you want to spend your vacation.
